KIT Lantern Art

The KIT architecture department does an annual display of nifty lanterns in a park downtown.  We'd heard about it the first year we were here but didn't go, and were thereafter told that the grant had run out and it wouldn't be happening anymore, but they either got more funding or kept doing it anyway, because we basically ran into a current iteration of it by accident.  We were en route to a Kenroku-en light-up that was scheduled for the holiday (Respect for the Aged Day) weekend. Apparently, however, it started on the Friday that nobody has off instead of extending through to the Monday that everybody does, so we missed that; it was OK because we've seen Kenroku-en before and the lanterns were new to us.  We had the big camera with us and got some decent pictures, more of which can be seen at Flickr.

There was also a small stage area next to the park where various performances were being given.  This guy danced to Latin dance tunes in traditional Japanese garb, with a sword.
